Measurement and Data – The Basics
One common thread through all levels of math, even as early as kindergarten, is collecting data and then representing the data through graphs. This important skill can be integrated into home learning activities that are engaging for your children and also incorporate real-life scenarios. This series will concentrate on a variety of activities that you can use at home to practice the skills of collecting data and then representing the data through various graphs.
The theme of measurement and data also includes other areas of mathematics including telling time, counting money, and units of dry and liquid measurement, however this series will focus on the standards of collecting and graphing data. Here is a great series of videos by Khan Academy to give you and your child both an introduction to data.
What fun activities do you do at home to practice the skills of collecting data and then graphing the data? Check back later this week for more on this series about measurement and data using food.
