## Mode – Simplifying Statistics

The mode of a set of numbers is the number that appears the most frequently within the set. In this set of number {1, 2, 5, 7, 7, 9, 10}, 7 would be the mode as it is repeated 2 times within the set. If there is no number repeated within the set, then there is no mode. A great real life example of mode is used in clothing stores. They use this to calculate which sizes are the most popular for specific products. This way, they can order more of that size to have on stock at the store so they can then make more sales.

## Game to to Calculate Mode

One activity that you can do to practice learning how to calculate mode at home is to create a set of numbers using a deck of cards. Have your child pull out some cards of the deck to create their set. Then have them calculate the mode based upon this set of cards. This can also be used to practice calculating the other statistical math problems that you have learned in this series including median, mean, and range.
